Tips for selling your home in the winter

Categories: New Homes in Apex | Posted: January 10, 2020

Winter is in full force and even though the holidays are over, cooler temperatures will be sticking around for a few more months before spring returns. If you have the task needing to sell your home this winter, it can seem like an uphill battle since that is often the lesser popular season for buyers to be in the market shopping for homes. However, Mattamy Homes, a premier homebuilder for new homes in Raleigh, shares tips on how you can give your home the one-up on the market this winter season.

A great welcoming peace that can set your home apart from others this winter, is to create and inviting front door. Use evergreens, spruces or winter berries to potted plants on your front porch stoop or adding a nice wreath on your front door.

Be sure people can see and focus on the beautiful entrance to your home you’ve created, by making sure your driveway and sidewalks are always cleared of any snow, if you get any. Salt the walkways to prevent any slippery spots that could be dangerous for buyers looking at the home. If you have a porch or back deck, don’t forget about those areas as well. If it is nice enough to show off and feature as a selling point, be sure to shovel it and clean it off nicely so it doesn’t get hidden by snow or ice when buyers are looking.

You can also spruce up the front of your home by adding a cheerful paint color to your front door, that can add to curb appeal as well. A welcome mat is also not only a nice touch, but will be helpful for buyers to wipe their feet off before entering your home. It is also a good idea to set both inside and outside lighting on timers, since the days will be shorter. If you have buyers looking at you home around dinner time when it is getting dark, you will want to be able to provide them with light even when you aren’t home.

Next, especially if the temperatures are cold outside be sure to set your home no cooler than 70 degrees when you will be showing it. No one wants to come in from the cold outdoors to a home that is still chilly on the inside. A warm home will keep buyers looking longer and give them a warmer feeling about your home in general.

Lastly, create cozy nooks in your home. Cozy spaces make a home feel more relaxed. So, consider adding some candles, fluffy pillows and cozy throw blankets around your fireplace or setup a reading area that feels inviting. Another creative idea that will have buyers taking special note of your house, is to create a hot chocolate station in your kitchen or wherever makes the most sense. This will not only leave buyers with a nice treat when they visit your home, but plant the seed in their head that they could setup a hot chocolate or coffee station of their own in your home for future holiday gatherings or winters to come.

These simple tips can really have your home standing out from the rest this winter season.
