Simple ways to save money in your kitchen

Categories: Apex, New Homes in Apex, New Homes in Raleigh | Posted: January 24, 2020

If you are like most, ways to help you save money are always tips that you are open to learning. However, did you know that you can save money right in your kitchen starting today? Mattamy Homes, a premier homebuilder for new homes in Raleigh, shares tips on how to cut your bills straight from your kitchen.

The first way you can save money from the comfort of your kitchen, is to unplug any electronics that never fully turn off. The most common offenders in kitchens are Coffee makers and toasters. If you unplug any items like this in your kitchen after each use, you will save money on your electric bills. A little adds up over the course of months and years combined.

The next thing you can consider is what temperature you have your refrigerator set too. If you milk is icey, chances are the temperature of your refrigerator is too cold and your fridge is overworking more than it needs too. The ideal temperature for a refrigerator is between 39 and 42 degrees. This will keep the items in your fridge cool and not icey.

Another item that can contribute to hidden savings, is to skip the pre-rinse and dry cycle on your dishwasher. Drying dishes by hand takes little time to do, especially if you dry them as you unload your dishwasher. If you rise your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, the pre-rinse cycle isn’t even needed. Be sure to only run the dishwasher when it’s full, and you will save energy when combining these three things.

The next tip to implement as a part of your kitchen energy savings, is to make sure you do not routinely open your oven when you have food cooking in it. If you continually open and close the oven door while cooking, you lose a tremendous amount of heat and wasted energy. If you use your ovens self-clean cycle, it is best to run it after you have used your oven and it is still warm to save energy from having to heat back up from cold.

Lastly, when it comes time to give your kitchen a thorough cleaning, check your cabinets for household cleaning products before running to the store to buy some. A great in-kitchen option to clean your countertops is a mixture of baking soda and water. An all-natural green cleaning product that does a tremendous job on your kitchen cleaning efforts!

These simple tips can add to a lot of savings on your energy bill over time, without having to majorly change your lifestyle or habits!
